GastrointestinalHernia Surgery ward, one of the three major subspecialties of general surgery department which is a ministerial key discipline, provincial key clinical specialty,Suzhou city key disciplineclinical specialty, is the doctoral training base of Soochow Universitythe high-quality nursing demonstration ward. Totally, there are 56 beds, 38 medical staff, including 4 senior8 associate senior specialist, one doctoral supervisor,5 masters supervisors. The medical staffs within the ward are actively involved in major medical societiesorganizations. One is the leader of the Committee of Gastrointestinal Surgery Group, Surgery Branch, Suzhou Medical Association.

Our ward is dedicated to the diagnosissurgical treatment of gastrointestinal tract benignmalignant tumors, retroperitoneal tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, hernia, hemorrhoid, anal fistula, constipation, obesitydiabetes. The conventional Laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery was regularly carried out for patient with proper indications. Besides, many new techniques were carried out, such as transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), dual-channel anastomosis of residual stomachjejunum in radical resection of upper gastric cancer, endoscopic submucosal dissection, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES), pylorus-preserving gastrectomy (PPG), bariatric surgeryvideo assistant anal fistula treatment. We also focus more efficiently on multi-model treatment for gastrointestinal cancer. MDT (multidisciplinary treatment) team was established by departments of gastrointestinal surgery, gastroenterology, oncology, radiotherapy, intervention, pathology, radiology. According to different tumor stages, different strategies such as minimally invasive surgery, standard radical surgery, extended radical surgery, postoperative chemotherapy, preoperative chemoradiotherapy, interventional therapy, intraperitoneal infusion of chemotherapy were adopted. According to ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery) principles, enhanced recovery protocols for perioperative care have also adopted to reduce complications, improve overall outcomesshorten length of stay after surgery.

Our ward organizes national continuing education programslarge-scale conferences annually. We have developed international exchange programscooperation with famous hospitalsuniversities abroad, including France, USA, Japan et al. our ward has obtained 3 National Natural Science Fund Projects, 10 provincialministerial scientific research fund projects, 4 provincialministerial scientifictechnological progress awards, one provincial first-class award of new technology introduction, 7 municipal scientifictechnological progress awards, 2 municipal first-class awards for new technology introduction. So far, we published 9 professional booksmore than 200 academic papers, including 50 SCI papers.
