Hepatobiliary Surgery Department, a sub-department of General Surgery in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, is the national clinical drug trail institution, the laparoscopic training base of Ministry of Health, the key discipline of SuzhouJiangsu as well as the doctoral training base of Soochow University. The Department has 55 beds in totalnearly 40 medical personnel. Among them, there is one vice president, five chief physicians, six associate chief physicians, one doctoral supervisorfour master’s supervisors. Seven people have got doctor’s degree. Besides, the department has one deputy leader of the HerniaAbdominal Surgery Society, one committee member of Laparoscopic group of Jiangsu branch of Chinese Medical Association (CMA), one vice directorone standing committee member of China Endoscopic Minimally Invasive Gallbladder Committeethe endoscopes branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) respectively.

The Department has carried out a number of new technologies which not only be the leading level in Jiangsu provinceeven in China but also fills in the gaps in these fields in Suzhou. The conventional laparoscopic minimally invasive surgical treatment of gallbladder, biliary track, liver, pancreasspleen diseases is carried out in the department. Laparoscopic anatomical hepatectomy of benignmalignant liver tumors, computer 3D reconstruction technique applying in accurate hepatectomy, radiofrequency ablation guided by laparoscopic ultrasound to treat liver tumor, spleen reservation in laparoscopic pancreatic tail resection, laparoscopic resection of pancreas duodenum, laparoscopic gallbladder-preserving surgery for the treatment of gallbladder stones(polyp)，radical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma, laparoscopic radical cholecystectomy, stone extraction under choledochoscope rubble through the T tube fistulaapplying of super soft lens for treatment of calculus of intrahepaticextrahepatic duct are those technologies in peer forefront.

Multidisciplinary tumor diagnosistreatment team (MDT), formed by departments of hepatobiliary surgery, gastroenterology, oncology, radiotherapy, intervention, pathology, radiology is established. It’s a comprehensive, standardizedindividualized treatment system which reaches the advanced level in Jiangsu province. The latest introduction of CUSA knife, ultrasonic navigation, intraoperative ultrasound equipment, can provide more accurate minimally invasive treatment for diseases of hepatobiliary, pancreasspleen as well in the future.
