The Department of Neurology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University is a national clinical key specialty  and  research discipline, a provincial key medical discipline  and  a key clinical specialty. It has clinical  and  technological transformation research platforms, including the Jiangsu Province Neurological Disease Diagnosis  and  Treatment Technology Engineering Research Center, Suzhou Neurological Clinical Medicine Center, Suzhou Neuropsychiatric Disease Key Laboratory,  and  Suzhou Sleep Disorders Diagnosis  and  Treatment Technology Key Laboratory. It is a masters  and  doctoral degree awarding site.

 

The Neurology Department spans two campuses—Sanxiang  and  Xuguan—with a total of five nursing units  and  157 beds. It has independent facilities such as neurophysiology rooms, vascular ultrasound rooms, a sleep center,  and  neuro-psychological evaluation rooms.

 

For five consecutive years, the department has ranked among the top 30 nationally in scientific  and  technological measures, leading among AliHealths specialized hospital rankings  and  within the top 10 in the Fudan Specialty Rankings for the East China region. It has a variety of specialties, focusing on Parkinsons disease, cerebrovascular diseases, sleep disorders, dystonia  and  botulinum toxin therapy, cognitive disorders, neuroinfections  and  immunology, neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetics  and  rare diseases,  and  neurological intensive care.

 

The department is among the first to be recognized as a National Advanced Parkinsons Disease Treatment Center, a Demonstration Center for Neurological Sleep Medicine,  and  an Advanced Cognitive Therapy Center. It is also designated as an Epilepsy Center by the Chinese Antiepileptic Association. It hosts eight multidisciplinary team (MDT) outpatient clinics for complex cerebrovascular diseases, Parkinsons disease  and  movement disorders, neuroinfections, myasthenia gravis, paroxysmal disorders, refractory Parkinsons disease, neuropathic pain,  and  rare diseases.

 

Over the past three years, the department has undertaken more than 40 national  and  provincial-level research projects, resulting in over 10 awards including the Chinese Medical Science  and  Technology Award  and  multiple second-class prizes for scientific  and  technological progress at the provincial  and  ministerial levels. It has published over 100 SCI papers in international high-impact academic journals  and  over 50 articles in core journals such as the Chinese Medical Journal series. Additionally, it has ledcontributed to over 20 domestic  and  international guidelines, expert consensus statements,  and  specialized books.
